June 2009 - Making Medicare Work for Your Dually Eligible Clients, Part I
This month we begin a two-part webinar series (June and July) that will focus on helping you figure out how to assist your dually eligible clients through the maze of Medicare and Medicaid. In June 2009 we explored the process of getting your clients bought into Medicare, so that they can receive help with their Medicare premiums, copayments, coinsurance and deductibles. We also looked at how your dually entitled clients gain access through coordinating Medicare and Medicaid to basic medical services, such as doctor visits.

Ship Counselors are going to need to be certified and also have a pin number where they can talk to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Services without client being there - too many Seniors are not going to do it themselves they will give certified SDIP Counselors all the info and say you do it-

Is it too cumbersome to get and fax written authorizations from your clients?

SHIP ID
SHIP counselors can get a SHIP ID from their State Director, which allows them to speak on a person's behalf to Medicare and most Medicare D plans. The ID is unique to the specific person.

The national SHIP website also has a great example from the state of Oregon of their SHIP release of information form.

Well I am happy that others have good luck with Medicare, Social Security, and Social Services but life is tough in CO-Yes we have a Unique ID but since most people in CO have no idea who or what SHIP is -they fall back on HIPPA
MIPPA (PIPPA) and will not do anything without a person saying Yes I am Marilyn let Linda take care of it and others want a written permission slip -when the majority of the time you just want to see if they are receiving MSP,do they have a PartC,D. Transportation is our biggest problem have to go th Denver for Social Security and to Commerce City for Social Services-they are not going to drive and if they take the bus have no idea what time to tell the bus driver to pick them up
